Eight of Swords

Upright/Well Dignified: Every so often, there might be a situation where you don’t know what’s going on and as a result, you’ll feel pretty helpless. When the Eight of Swords pays a visit in a reading, there’s a good chance that whatever situation you find yourself in at the moment will not allow you much leeway at all. Whether you’re feeling trapped in a relationship or bound to a job that has no genuine fulfillment for you, you’re being told that what you’re seeing isn’t the full picture.

Not by a long shot.

The Eight of Swords is a common card to show up when you’re throwing yourself a pity party. While yes, you might need help with something, it’s seldom what you’re expecting, as you’re not really able to see what’s going on around you. Being too caught up in, or even bound to, what’s going on to really see things for what they really are, as there may be a sense of something unseen that can harm you. While yes, these things might be out there. All it will take to be able to see what’s truly going on is to simply see things for what they are, rather than be trapped by your own perceptions of what’s happening.

There might be times when somebody is wanting to be rescued from their current situation. If this is the case, it will be worthwhile to find out what their situation really is before making a call on whether their “rescue” is really necessary. All it sometimes takes is to show people the reality of a situation and they can stand up on their own two feet. As long as they truly want to be out of their current situation, of course.

Reversed/Ill Dignified: When the Eight of Swords makes an appearance reversed, the situation is easily fixed, as all you need to do is walk away from it. The question becomes “why aren’t you?” This is one of those situations where you’re more likely than not simply blinding yourself to something that might be painful. We’ve all heard the phrase “the truth will set you free.” In this case, it a painful truth that you don’t want to look at yet. When this reversed card shows up though, you need to.

There are times when a situation will seem a lot more threatening than it is, giving you the impression that something might be amiss or even dangerous. To be blunt, it ain’t, so put your big people pants on and get back to work. Using an unrealistic fear as an excuse to not get things done is no longer going to be accepted in the current circumstances, so letting yourself be ruled by something that doesn’t have any genuine power over you is going to end badly. Stop it.

There might seem no way out o a current situation and occasionally the reversed Eight of Swords confirms this. The best that you can hope for is the ability to take whatever’s coming with some grace and a plan for overcoming this issue thee next time around.  While doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is stupid (and insane according to Einstein), a small tweak here and there will create different results. Small changes can yield big rewards, but first you have to start making them.
