Ace of Wands

Upright/Well Dignified: All of the Aces are about new beginnings, so when this card shows up in a reading there can be a sigh of relief or a sense of trepidation, depending on what kind of person you are. The Ace of Wands is in a lot of ways the beginning of the beginning. It can mean a new job that sparks a new passion, giving you a new and invigorating reason to get out of bed in the morning. It can be a new spiritual path that makes you look at the world in an entirely new fashion and connect you with an entirely new sense of unity with God/Goddess/the Earth/Batman(Hey, people are weird!). These are common things that are connected with the Ace of Wands and are usually picked up by other cards in a reading. Whatever the new thing is, it’s gong to rekindle some part of you that you thought had burned out long ago and a lot of people that are close to you are going to notice a change.

Another new thing that the Ace of Wands can refer to is new life, such as a pregnancy. Yes, that’s right, an obviously phallic object is a sign of a pregnancy. I’ll wait here while you get the penis jokes out of your system.

With the Ace of Wands in a reading, searching for your true passions may be highlighted. What is it that you truly can’t live without? What things motivate you beyond all else and what will it take to find them and incorporate them into your life? These are questions that the Ace of Wands highlights and wants you to pay attention to. This Wand is telling you to look at what you’re doing and how what you’re doing is going to fulfill you at your core.

Reversed/Ill Dignified: There can be a few reasons for the Ace of Wands to be reversed. The first reason that I’m going to look at is how current events in your life are REALLY affecting you. There’s a distinct possibility that something important wants to start but you aren’t letting it as where you are is too comfortable to actually move from where you are. When this Ace isreversed there’s often a common theme of fear of what’s coming next. Sometimes it’s fear of screwing up, other times it’s a fear that what you’re hoping to achieve won’t live up to what you’ve built it up to be in your head. While something not living up to your expectations can be a little disappointing, realising that your chance to be part of something amazing has passed forever can be devastating, especially if you could have played a major part in it.

There’s also the question of what you’re doing at the moment. Is it touching you personally, or is it just so that you “keep on keeping on”? There are times when a reversed Ace of Wands is a warning sign that you are spending more time convincing yourself that you’re passionate about something than actually being passionate about any aspect of it. For many, this is a major stumbling block as they disconnect from themselves and end up not recognising who they truly are. Not a good place to be. The Ace of Wands reversed, like any reversed card, wants to be put upright. What this means for a reversed Ace of Wands is that what you’re doing at the moment is wasting energy on bullshit and it’s time to look at what you need to be doing to find your true passions.
