The Universe/World

Well Dignified/Upright: At the centre of everything, once the dust has settled and all is said and done, there is where you’ll find the World. On many World/Universe cards, you’ll find the main focus of the card surrounded by representations of the four elements. These four elements have been fully experienced, revealing your true nature as a being of both a physical and spiritual reality. The real kicker is that these aren’t separate worlds, but merely perspectives of the same place. The lesson here is that the mind will shape how you see the world enough that what you understand to be true is the world you will experience. Magicians of the Western Mystery Tradition explain it rather more simply:

As above, So below.

When this card shows up in a reading, there is a sense of completion, or of moving on into something completely new. There could be limitations that are either being lifted, or being overcome. This card talks about a whole new world to explore and become a part of as long as you are willing to take part in it. A rebirth, of sorts. This card is also about being where you need to be, when you need to be there. It isn’t merely good luck, but taking advantage of opportunities that will lead you exactly where you want to go. This is a card of all good things as long as you can recognise them and put them to work.

Occasionally, this card can be about knowing your own boundaries and enforcing them, being able to say yes or no to things that contest these boundaries. Eventually you will feel comfortable enough to go beyond. Not only are you in control of what, but also the when, where and how. The who and the why are all up to you.

Ill dignified/Reversed:

Even reversed, this card talks about the good things that are open to you as long as you’re open to them. This being the case, this is a weaker, less dominant version of the upright card. Advancements and moving forward are still on the cards, but may not quite be what you were expecting. There is also the possibility that these things could be postponed due to any number of reasons.

While you might feel in control of your own world, you might feel a little restricted by other people encroaching on your territory. Responsibilities that you are trying to live up to might be making you feel less in control than you want to be. Figuring out how to regain control of things might be a little difficult, but it will happen eventually. Knowing the things that you feel remove that control from you is a good start, as then you can move on to defuse them or simply work around them.

The obligations of everyday life might be more than you think that you can handle, especially with more seeming to appear every day. The world being on your shoulders, as it were. Thankfully, this can be changed by stepping back from the world and observing things objectively. When you look at one situation in particular, you might notice that the issue doesn’t seem so bad. When the right amount of effort is focused there, things may very well fall into place elsewhere, reinforcing the notion that things are interconnected. What this means is that by removing one obstacle, everything will be affected in one way or another. The trick is knowing how things will happen and catching what you need as things occur.

With that little trick, you can achieve a lot more than you think you can.
