The Priestess/High Priestess

Upright/Well Dignified: This is the card that pulls you into a whole new way of looking at things. It’s not that you’ll be seeing things differently, but more completely. The High Priestess is a card of knowledge that is there for anybody, as long as they’re able to look…

Sounds mysterious? That’s the High Priestess to a ‘t.’ She’s the person that knows how to find information by looking at connections and how to read them. The ebb and flow of events is where she excels and if she says that something is true, then there is no doubt at all that this is so. Where most people look for “What is” by what’s around them, the High Priestess sees “What will be.”

Intuition is going to be a big part of your life when this card is pulled in a reading. You’re going to find that your gut is telling you one thing when your head is telling you another. In this kind of circumstance, you need to go with your gut. Instinct is one of the key words of the High Priestess as she’ll notice what’s missing just as well as you’ll notice what’s there.

There might be times when you might feel a little like withdrawing from the world for a breather and when the High Prietess is pulled ina reading, it might be a good idea. Getting to know your own intuition and instinctual responses is easiest when there are no others around to interfere. Emotions and intuitive responses are how the High Priestess works her magic, so when she this card is pulled, you’re being told to look deeper.

Reversed/Ill Dignified: A reversed Priestess often isn’t about what you’ll discover, but what you’re keeping hidden. There is for many people an abundance of information that they’d simply prefer not to know, or to keep hidden from other people. Everything from an extramarital affair to the planning of a surprise birthday party can be covered by this card, so it might be a case of looking at the other cards in a reading to help clear that up. It’s never a good idea to assume the worst when this card appears although there can be times when caution would be advised. This is especially true if there are an abundance (read as “close to or over half a spread”) of  reversed cards in a reading.

As the reversed Priestess is about things being hidden, there is also the aspect of not wanting to see the reality of a situation. There is a world of examples of people simply ignoring things that could be (actually, they probably will be)  a little painful initially, but will pay off in the long term. Ignoring the fact that something’s going on will only lead you to doubt your own instincts in other situations, which can be hazardous in the long term. This can lead to losing sight of all kinds of important things, so trust your instincts on this one and, more importantly, act on them.

Occasionally, there might be something that someone else is keeping from you. The person keeping it from you may or may not even know what it is, so don’t lose your calm. Once again, look to other cards in the reading to see how significant the secret is. A major confrontation over a minor thing can be stupid to lose friends over, especially if if i’s a major confrontation over a minor issue.
